A dislocated toe

Okay, so I'm not 21 anymore, nor am I Superman. At the college retreat we went for a nice hike, ending at Echo Point. As if was a cliff, some scrambling around on the rocks began immediately. To get to the farthest out point, you had to jump across a small (3 foot) crack. Most people were scrambling down to the crack and jumping over. But not Wade. Oh no - I had to jump down the 10 feet and across all at the same time. The landing was weird - my whole foot kind of went numb. That was a bad sign. I knew it was bad and that I needed to get back the mile to the vehicles as quickly as possible. So I hopped / jumped the way back. We iced it up nicely, and figured that something was wrong as the big toe was pointing straight up. I toughed it out for 3 days, hoping that it would fix itself. Finally I went in for x-rays, which made it pretty apparent that it was dislocated. A couple of shots to numb the toe, and the doctor squeezed it just like you would squeeze a cooked lima been. Squirt! It popped right back into place!!
Lesson learned - don't be afraid to take risks, but be willing to accept the consequences! Another interesting lesson that I learned was in how that everyone was willing to pray for my toe - but I started realizing that what I really needed prayers for was my attitude, that I would learn what I needed to learn through the experience. I think that all too often we are all guilty of focusing on the physical aspect, when God is trying to teach us a spiritual lesson.

Oh my, these boys in our lives!! You haven't changed a bit! Our oldest son is just like you and must have learned it from you! (jumping 10 feet, I mean!) Glad your toe is better and that you had lots of prayer for it!
